Fresh snow to finish off the week in Les 2 Alpes

Looking forward to a powder day on Sunday

This week has been a week of contrasts, with some scorching temperatures and blue skies for the first half, and some unsettled weather and fresh snow to finish off.

La Grave is no longer skiable down to the river. It is still possible to ski to P1, but only just! There's plenty of snow higher up although spring conditions were prevailing even up to about two and a half thousand metres, so this fresh layer of new snow is very welcome.

Back in Les Deux Alpes, the lower pistes have also been suffering from the unseasonably high temperatures. The nursery slopes are complete, but there are only two runs open back down to resort - one black and one blue. Above 2000m the snow cover is still excellent and the fresh snow we are getting just now should help to create a nice grippy layer on top.

This morning (Friday) there was some pretty good powder skiing to be had on some of the more sheltered and north facing parts of the glacier, and also great conditions in the predominantly north-facing Bellecombes sector.

Wind speeds were high last night, and so stripped a fair amount of the fresh snow of other parts of the hill, however there is more snow forecast over the next couple of days, with freezing levels dropping on Saturday afternoon, so hopefully a decent dump of snow even at resort level. Sunday morning could be an excellent powder day! Fingers crossed!!

The weather looks more settled for the coming week, with plenty of blue skies, light winds and mild temps - but not unseasonably hot like we experienced over the last couple of weeks; so proper winter-snow conditions up top and spring conditions lower down the hill (hard in the mornings, soft in the afternoons).

Have a great week - another quiet one before Easter!
