What's on in Les 2 Alpes March 2019

After the school-holiday crowds have left, the resort takes on a more relaxed atmosphere for much of March. The days grow longer, warmer and usually sunnier. There are more events and more parties this month as people enjoy the second half of the season.

This time of the season attracts more adult visitors and fewer children between half-term and Easter. It also attracts more experienced skiers who already know that this is a great time to ski. Newcomers to the sport sometimes assume that January and February are the best months but regular skiers often choose March for cheap prices, consistent snow and better weather. Read on for our guide to the best of what Les Deux Alpes has to offer this month.

Festivals

This month will see Les Deux Alpes hosting an incredible four different festivals from Germany, Poland and Romania. The German Festival Snowzone is back for the nineteenth year from March 9th to 16th. The same week sees a second festival, the new Polish Wintersound Festival, making its Deux Alpes debut. Each of these events expects to bring around 500 people to the resort. The following week will see more German students in town for the Unichamp inter-university championships. The event is a combination of student ski and snowboard racing and freestyle competitions along with plenty of après ski and partying. At the end of the month, the Snowfest Festival brings another 1200 revellers to Les Deux Alpes from March 24th to 31st. The Romanian event is back for the fifth year running bringing a mix of freestyle skiing and snowboarding along with a programme of evening concerts and parties.

St. Patrick's Day - 17th March

17th March is when the resort turns green and everything Irish is celebrated. Almost every bar and nightclub will have an Irish-themed night where you can expect to see promotions on stout and Irish whisky, Irish folk music, green and orange pennants, leprechaun outfits and a range of interesting hats.

Parties and live music

Apart from the St. Patrick’s Day festivities and the festivals, there are always plenty of parties and events around the resort in March. Keep an eye on the events page or ask the staff in your favourite bar where the next party night is. There is plenty of weekly live music too, with Shaftastic Niven playing at Doume’s, the Saloon Bar and the Dahu, and Jamie Rey Wales playing the Polar Bear and The Spot.

On the mountain

While there might be plenty of partying going on at night, this is one of the best times of the season to take advantage of good snow, good weather and uncrowded slopes. The approach of spring means warmer, longer days and the snow that fell earlier in the season will provide good piste conditions well into April. Off-piste lovers will benefit from more predictable, stable snow conditions and March marks the peak of the ski touring season.

In Les Deux Alpes, the weekly on snow activities will continue to run throughout March and April. These include the Freeride Attitude off-piste orientation day on Tuesdays, the First Tracks ski with the ski patrol on Wednesday mornings, a behind the scenes tour of the Funicular on Tuesdays and an excursion in a piste basher on Thursdays.
