Hello everybody, well what good weather we have had, the forecasts have been saying it is going to be overcast but the sun has shone through or it has burnt the clouds away.
As you can see from the picture of the Jandri piste on the corner the snow is lovely up high, I recon above 2300 metres it is perfect, the lower down you go the more wind blown and icy it gets, saying that you can still ski on the lower pistes fine just be observant of icy patches.
We went up a couple of days ago to find some powder after the 10 to 15 centimetres of snow we had, however when it was snowing it was also very windy and then in-between the two dumps it got quite hot, so after deliberation where to go we went into La Fee to come up the lift and then ski the twin faces, jumped off the cornice at the top, landed, and pitched over completely, it was rock solid, it looked nice and fresh and because it is at a different angle to the direction of the wind I thought it would be nice, 20 minutes of punishing hard lumpy snow and were at the bottom, I lost a toe cap screw, and Nico broke his whole binging, so he went home and Harvey and I went to the “secret rail garden”
The secret rail garden is basically a place the ski schools take their freestyle lessons to so they can practice. It has two small boxes, and a little jump. As I had one functioning binding I was practising the jump and rails with only one foot strapped in, it was quite entertaining, I even managed to hop from one snowboard to the other one whilst sliding down the box, it felt better then it looked on the recording. And the jumps looked higher then they were, always the way I suppose.
It has been quite cold recently up the hill even though the sun has been out a bit, and that cold seems to be staying around. Today it was sunny this morning but later this evening it seems to be closing in, with a chance of snow, only a light dusting, about 3 centimetres tonight and tomorrow. So expect low visibility coupled with -20 degrees for Wednesday, and 30 kph winds. Thursday will hopefully bring with it less cloud, lower winds will also be on the cards, about 15 kph at the top and the temperature will drop slightly to -17 degrees. Due to the temperature the freezing level is low, very low, it hits 0 a few times but hovers around 250 feet above sea level.
There is a few things you can do on Wednesday to escape the bad weather, you could go to the ice caves at the top of the mountain after the underground train and have a look at some nice sculptures. You can also get free swimming with your ski pass in the out-door heated pool also you get free entry to the ice skating rink, just pay for boot hire which is about 4 Euros. There is many arcade centres and also a spa and well being centre in resort to keep you entertained. Plenty of restaurants to have a nice lunch at as well.
Right, best be off, have a good time and I look forward to seeing you in resort!
